Prior to the last General Election, there was a great deal of speculation as to whether the Civil Service would be able to adapt to a change of government after so many years.  There are still some voices to be heard presaging disaster and calamity from the twin evils of efficiency and rationalization

However, here at New MI5 we harbour no such fears.  We look forward to five years of close co-operation with the Prime Minister and most of his government.

The days of union power, wage spirals and unilateral disarmament are now surely gone, and with them the menacing threat of discontent within the security services leading to covert interference in political affairs, if any such threat ever existed.
